How to: Install the leaked copy of froyo using clockwork on your rooted Droid

This method explains how to install the droid froyo leak on to a rooted droid with clockwork recovery installed.  If your phone is not rooted and you don’t have clockwork recovery installed, then don’t use this guide.  You will mess up your phone.  Again, SPRecovery users don’t use this guide.

Before I get started.  I just want to explain that I will not be held responsible if you break your phone.  By following this guide, you understand that if you fuck your shit up, it’s your own damn fault.  No cries about your warranty is voided, your dog’s got diarrhea … bla bla bla … If your phone is rooted then your warranty is already voided.

Now that’s out of the way, let’s get to the good stuff.  Remember, this was written under the assumption that you have already rooted and are using clockwork recovery.  Make sure you backup your current rom before proceeding.

1. Download the leaked rom that P3 threw up on his site.  I’ll post a mirror because mydroidworld.com is getting hammered right now … naturally ;)

2. Download the 1GHz kernel P3 made.  Again, I’ll post another mirror.  This also fixes the WiFi issue they explained.  They had to rapidly recompile a kernel that didn’t have a matching tiwlan driver for WiFi.

3. Download the flash 10.1 beta apk.  It used to be listed in the market but it looks like adobe has pulled it off … I wonder why.  Thank god nothing ever gets deleted if it ever hits the internet right ;)

4. Once you’ve downloaded the P3DF-DW.zip file … Open it and extract the 2010-06-05.06.15.32 folder to your desktop.

5. Connect your droid to your desktop and mount the sdcard.

6. Browse your sdcard to clockworkmod/backup … copy the 2010-06-05.06.15.32 folder with all its contents to the backup folder.  Folder structure should look like /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/2010-06-05.06.15.32

7. Copy the AdobeFlashPlayer10.1_10.1.61.68.apk and 1.0-v32kernel.zip to the root of your sdcard.

8. Reboot your phone and go into clockwork recovery.  Got into the partitions menu and format the system, data and cache partitions.  For good measure, back up one menu level and wipe data/factory reset.

9. Go into nandroid and select restore.  Choose the 2010-06-05.06.15.32 image and the restore process should take a few minutes.

10. Once completed, reboot your droid.  It should take a little bit to come up.  Once it’s up, log into your google account and let it sync your contacts and data.

11.  Reboot your phone and go back into clockwork recovery.  Select install zip from sdcard.  Select choose zip from sdcard.  Use the volume down keys and locate the 1.0-v32kernel.zip and select it.  Reboot like normal once its completed.

12  Once android comes up completely, open your settings and select applications.  Put a check into Unknown sources.  Download and install an app like astro from the android market and install the AdobeFlashPlayer10.1_10.1.61.68.apk.

13: Enjoy!

Side note: The market acted kinda funny on me and got stuck with RootExplorer … Had to clear the market cache to get past it

MyDroidWorld released their Dorid 2.2RC … All rejoice!

If you haven’t yet … Go and download the rom.  Its the release candidate that their source has been showing on their site @ MyDroidWorld.com.  Its 75MB and available in nandroid backup.  One disclaimer is that WiFi doesn’t work.  They generated a new kernel.  Seems the ROM’s kernel was where Motorola would track who was the leaker of this delicious Droid froyo.

Cyanogen working on Froyo!? ZOMG!

If you don’t know who Cyanogen is, you can find out more at his site @ www.cyanogenmod.com … Best analogy I read on other sites is: cyanogen is to android what Jesus is to Christianity.

Being a follower Cyanogen and his Droid deciple Koush … I noticed a few interesting tweets between the two involving cyanogenmod and froyo … Can this be!?

LauncherPro … Its in beta but it the best one out IMO.

There are so many good applications being developed for the android OS.  One of my favorite apps is the home screen replacement app called LauncherPro.  It’s in beta right now but don’t let that fool you.  This is a high quality app … One that I would gladly pay money for.

First thing you will notice when you install this is SPEED … It is fast.   Now I’ve tried a lot of launchers, even paid for a few in the market.  I am convinced that this one tops them all.  It’s very simple and light weight.  Not too many confusing settings to adjust that you lose track of what you did.  It imports the feel and functionality of HTC’s Sense UI with pinch zooming to see all your screens.  The screen transitions and animations are all smooth.  Even the app drawer is smooth like butter.

Now this is also the first launcher that I’ve seen that allows you to add an additional row on your screen size.  Standard was 4×4 … There’s an option to increase that to 5×4 … Holy smokes!  That’s huge in my book.  You can also adjust how many rows of apps you want in your app drawer.  Lastly there are 4 customizable dock slots at the bottom.  Other launchers only allow you to put applications in there.  LauncherPro lets you put a lot more.  You can set it to a bookmark on a page like android-zei if you really wanted to ;)

This app keeps getting better and better.

**EDIT**  Looks like this app looks like its having issues in the market.
